Description

This is just a random idea. I don't know how USB-C receptacles actually are in terms of mechanical stability (e.g. THT of shield for mechanical mounting, but SMT for the data pins), ...

Both micro-B (3) and USB-C allow for 5V/3A power to be consumed even without any USB-PD (power delivery) related circuitry.

Maybe we get a few connector samples and look at them

  • Status changed from New to Rejected

We received several USB-C socket samples of different brands, with mixed THT and SMT pins as well as only SMT.

Even if we 'only' want to draw up to 3A, we would have to measure voltages on the CC lines to tell whether a power supply is able to source those 3A. We don't feature an extra MPU w/ ADC on that board, nor a PD circuit, and besides the woes of those fine wire traces, let's drop this idea for the upcoming version. - Rejecting this for now.
