Description

We have to set the "channel-description attach 0" option in OsmoBSC, so the MS does not detach from the network when changing the IMSI. This also means, there will be no IMSI attach. OsmoMSC will only page subscribers that have attached, so we need to either teach OsmoMSC to page subscribers that are not attached as well, or work around it in the applet by doing something like an arbitrary CM Service Request right after changing the IMSI.

I think it is unrealistic to assume that anyone would ever want to page subscribers
that are not attached. It drastically increases the paging load all over your network,
no real world operator ever wants to do anything like that.

Furthermore, the entire point of the IMSI pseudonymization project is to only introduce
changes in the SIM and the HLR, while working with an otherwise unmodified network, preferably
of any configuration. This is the only way to ensure a pure MVNO could ever deploy this
system, as the other elements are outside their control (part of the MNO).

I see... my assumption was, that this is how real world operators deal with paging and ATT=0. Do you know how they do it instead?

Understood. As previously discussed, we will need ATT=0 to be configured in the network though, but that should be the case with most real world networks.
