h1. GPS 02 01 / GPS 03 01
4 1 laforge
5
This is the Ericsson original GPS receiver that can be used to provide a clock reference to equipment like [[DUG 20]] or [[DUL 20]] or also the [[SIU 02]]
6
7 11 laforge
The GPS 02 is also called _NCD 901 41/1_, while the GPS 03 is also called _NCD 901 56/1_
8
9
We're not aware of the exact differences between GPS 02 and GPS 03

16
h3. RJ45 for connection to DUL/DUG/DUW/SIU/TCU
17
18
The unit has two RJ45 sockets. They appear to have identical functionality.
19
20
The pin-out is as follows:
21
22
|_.Pin|_.Name|_.Comment|
23 10 tnt
|1|1PPS+|RS-422 1PPS GPS -> DUx|
24
|2|1PPS-|RS-422 1PPS GPS -> DUx|
25
|3|RxD+|RS-422 in direction DUx -> GPS|
26 3 laforge
|4|TxD+|RS-422 NMEA in direction GPS -> DUx|
27
|5|TxD-|RS-422 NMEA in direction GPS -> DUx|
28 10 tnt
|6|RxD-|RS-422 in direction DUx -> GPS|
29 3 laforge
|7|12V|supply voltage from DUx -> GPS|
30
|8|GND|supply voltage from DUx -> GPS|
31
32
The supply voltage pins on a [[DUL 20]] only provide 3.1V until the GPS receiver is detected by means of a 1kOums resistor between 12V and GND. At that point, the DUL sources the full 12V.
33
34 4 laforge
The 1PPS output signal of the GPS 02 only becomes active once there is a GPS fix.

36
h3. SMA for connection to GPS antenna
37
38
This includes a 5V DC phantom voltage supply for the active antenna.
39 4 laforge
40
h2. LED
41
42
There is a single green LED.
43
* after power up, it takes some dozens of seconds until it first becomes active
44
* slow green blinking light indicates powered up but no GPS fix
45
* steady green light indicates powered up and GPS fix (1PPS output active)

h2. NMEA
48
49 7 laforge
Ericsson uses some extensions to the typical standard NMEA sentences. For more information, see "This scientific thesis about emulating an Ericsson GPS receiver twoards a RBS":http://uu.diva-portal.org/smash/get/diva2:573991/FULLTEXT01.pdf
