your libusb is likely too old. please check the libusb-1.0 sources to find a version that provides this symbol/function.

I updated to the latest version, 1.0.24, still the same error message.
The old version was 1.0.21.

With midnight commander, I'm able to see if the function is defined in the library. It's present in both versions of the library.

it fails at linking rtl_biast.
